2006 Le Muscat, Domaine ou Chateau de l Ermitage is one of the greatest grape varieties and certainly one of the most ancient. Its origins are probably Mediterranean, where it still thrives. It is almost certainly a variety known to the ancient Greeks and Romans as being as attractive to bees as to humans. Muscat is more properly a family of grapes, which comes in berries of all colours and varying size and shape. The best is known as Small-Berry White Muscat (or as the French say Muscat Blanc Petits Grains even though its golden berries can be so dark that the Australians call it brown Muscat. |
